Blush
It is unusual,
in this new century, to be overly embarrassed when under the protection of an
hospital.
Indeed, we have, thankfully, arrived at a point in
our civilised world where, in most areas of life, a persons feelings are taken
into consideration and their dignity preserved.
For the most part, my hospital experience was of the type which can be
listed as ‘satisfactory’
in
most aspects, and
‘excellent’ in others.
I have a high regard
for the professional and caring’ manner which I was treated.
However, there is
one area where I feel I am unable to comment other than ‘could do better’.
My stay in hospital consisted of three weeks in my local hospital
awaiting a call from the hospital who would carry out the surgery, and a
further two week stay when transferred. I also needed further care after returning
home at the original hospital.
Whilst I was in the
care of the operating hospital, the manner of treatment, care and understanding
was for the most part, very good. My only complaint has to be with regard to
the preparation for surgery. As I said before, it is probably necessary, and
possibly, a good thing overall, that one receives attention from a razor before
being taken down to the theatre. However, for my part, being left with
practically only my eyebrows and the ‘production line’ way I arrived at this
condition, leaves me, even now, in cringeland.
Ok, each nurse has
their own way of carrying out such an exercise, but, (and I stress, this is
only my experience I am commenting on), I personally found the whole thing
inwardlly upsetting and an extreme embarrassment.
I would ask
therefore, that anyone reading this page, and who may be less sympathetic than
the vast majority of staff are (and such people will be few), please. please,
do take into account that not everyone, even whilst
awaiting major surgery,
copes well with this type of happening.
