THIS IS A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF VARIOUS COMMENTS AND ADVICE GIVEN TO ME ON MY RETURN HOME

 

Smoking is recognized as being bad for you at any time, but, if you have had a bypass operation, the risk of a grafted bypass getting blocked is very high. One in every two bypass-patients get a blockage in their leg within two years of the operation.

 

Exercise or indeed, physical activity helps promote growth of new blood vessels. Regular exercise such as walking will help a lot. Walk a little further each time until you reach about 30 minutes walking a day. Consult your cardiac nurse on this.

 

Control high blood pressure. It is important that blood pressure is checked regularly.

 

 

 

 

Watch your cholesterol level, and if you are overweight lose some weight

 

If you are overweight, regular physical activity or exercise will help, but seek your doctors advice on this.

 

Reduce your intake of fat in your food. High fat raises blood cholesterol levels. . Cut down the total amount of fatty foods you eat, especially the saturated fats.

 

Try to eat five portions of fruit and vegetables a day

 

Check your feet if you have had a bypass operation.

If one or both of your feet become suddenly colder or have  a small ulcer, contact  your doctor.

 

Wash your feet each day, and dry them properly afterwards.
