THIS
IS A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF VARIOUS COMMENTS AND ADVICE GIVEN TO ME ON MY
RETURN HOME Smoking is recognized as being bad for you at any time, but, if
you have had a bypass operation, the risk of a grafted bypass getting blocked
is very high. One in every two bypass-patients get a blockage in their leg
within two years of the operation. Exercise or indeed, physical activity helps promote growth of
new blood vessels. Regular exercise such as walking will help a lot. Walk a
little further each time until you reach about 30 minutes walking a day.
Consult your cardiac nurse on this. Control high blood pressure. It is important that blood
pressure is checked regularly. |
Watch your cholesterol level, and if you are overweight lose
some weight If you are overweight, regular physical activity or exercise
will help, but seek your doctors advice on this. Reduce your intake of fat in your food. High fat raises blood
cholesterol levels. . Cut down the total amount of fatty foods you eat,
especially the saturated fats. Try to eat five portions of fruit and vegetables a day Check your feet if you have had a bypass operation. If one or both of your feet become suddenly colder or
have a small ulcer, contact your doctor. Wash your feet each day, and dry them properly afterwards. Foot care is important.
